Despite a tight and competitive third set, La Salle girls’ volleyball completed the sweep to defeat St. Paul in the its second Del Rey League game of the season.
Going into the match, the Lancers were riding a two-game winning streak after suffering a tough 3-0 loss to St. Lucy’s on Sept. 4. However, La Salle already had one league game under its belt and was looking to take another in hopes of remaining atop the standings.
The Lancers did well to establish an early rhythm against St. Paul, dominating in nearly all aspects of the game. As usual, libero Vanessa Ramirez set the tone defensively as she finished the game with a team-high 24 digs while Crystal Ramirez added 21 digs of her own.
La Salle handily won the first two sets 25-19 and 25-12 and seemed well on its way to comfortably closing out the match in the third set. However, St. Paul did not go down without a fight as they rallied late to take a 23-20 lead.
With their seventh sweep of the season on the line, the Lancers put together a gutsy team effort to dig themselves out of the hole and take the set 25-23.
Chloe Howell once again spearheaded La Salle’s offense, recording a team-high of 11 kills to go with 14 digs and three serving aces. Alessandra Perez and Carly Kejmar also played a crucial part in terms of orchestrating the offense as the tandem combined for 26 assists.
