Unprecedented community outrage at Pasadena Unified School District (PUSD) over recent school “consolidations” has prompted officials to hold a forum this Thursday to address community concerns about additional potential school closures.

The PUSD Board of Education will discuss middle and high school consolidations on Thursday, Oct. 17 and Tuesday, Oct. 22. The Board of Education is considering options to consolidate middle and high schools next year as the District adjusts to demographic changes and the resulting economic impact on public school funding. One middle school in question is Sierra Madre Middle School.

Additional comments can be provided at masterplan19@pusd.us.

The forums will be moderated by the Pasadena League of Women Voters.

The Oct. 17 community forum will be from 5-7 p.m. in the auditorium at Pasadena High School, located at 2925 E. Sierra Madre Blvd., Pasadena.

The Oct. 22 forum will be held from 6-8 p.m. at John Muir Early College Magnet’s auditorium, located at 1905 E. Lincoln Ave., Pasadena.

Spanish and American Sign Language translation services will be provided.
