I recently had the opportunity to check out UNICO 20°87° in Riviera Maya, Mexico and found out that luxury all-inclusive is at a different level with UNICO 20°87°.  It’s unique, breathtaking, amazing, incomparable and for someone like me, that loves food, it’s exquisite.

Let’s start with the service. As soon as I arrived the staff greeted me by my last name making me feel extremely important. I felt that their greeting was on the tip of their tongue and just waiting for me to go through those doors.  With a welcome drink and a cold mini towel with a mint accent to freshen up, my check in was just amazing.  I wondered if they can top just the entrance alone.  I was feeling weird. I was feeling like, “Oh man, I hope the opening act is not better than the main performance,” (obviously referring to a concert setting).  I carried on with the VIP check in and once I made it to my room, it was like stepping into heaven (at least for the next few days of course).  The bathroom was gorgeous and clean, the bed was soft as a cloud (I’ve never stepped on a cloud but that’s the impression that is used often, so let’s go with that ok?). My view of the ocean was to die for and the smell of my room was magical.  All my senses came alive when walking into UNICO 20°87° especially my room.  Wow, now the second act was great so what does the third act have in store?  Let’s check it out.

After unpacking, because I do not like to live out of a suitcase when traveling, I took a break.  I rested in my room and really enjoyed their app – which I was able to order some drinks and dinner.  I love food, drinks and it was at my fingertips, so I used this awesome innovation of an app that I hadn’t seen anywhere else.  Around 11 p.m. I headed over to the Palmera Lounge, an intoxicating new take of the classic high energy Cuban clubs of the 40’s, where I enjoyed a smokey rum and a world-class cigar.

In the morning, I decided to golf a few rounds which was included in their unlimited Tours, Golf & Spas amenities (part of their All-Inclusive).  I topped it off by making it back in time for breakfast where I had the best buffet breakfast at 20°87° Restaurant, the hotels casual beachside venue.  During the day, I lounged at the pool until my massage appointment where I enjoyed a four hand esencia signature massage, talk about disconnecting with the world and feeling great. For the second night at UNICO 20°87°, I decided to have dinner at Cueva Siete.  Named for the seven origin caves of Mayan mythos, Cueva Siete, or Cave Seven, derives its inspiration from all that is Yucatecan. This regionally focused concept aims to harness the mysticism and reverence of Mayan culture, serving dishes deeply rooted in Mexican flavors and traditions.  Like Frank Sinatra would sing – “I’m in heaven.”  To me, the food was the main act and it was a success, I went back to my room with the biggest smile a big man can ever have after enjoying a dinner of that magnitude.  Thanks, UNICO 20°87° for providing me with an amazing concert of feelings, sites, smells, tastes and satisfaction.  Unico es unico and in my book, one of the best resorts I’ve stayed at in all of Mexico.

Gracias.
