Pasadena Summer Youth Chamber Orchestra’s Next Concert – July 1

Award-winning youngsters will solo with the Pasadena Summer Youth Chamber Orchestra at 7:30 p.m. Sunday, July 1 at the First Church of the Nazarene, Pasadena.
Under the direction of Paul J. Sherman, the orchestra will perform the music of Felix Mendelssohn, Carl Maria von Weber, Max Bruch, Camille Saint-Saens, and Edvard Grieg at this free concert.
Sherman will lead the orchestra in Mendelssohn’s “Fingal’s Cave after which four teen-age soloists will perform.
Andrew Moses, age 13, will be heard in Weber’s Concertino for Clarinet. Jaimee Cao, age 12, will play the first movement of Bruch’s Violin Concerto in G-minor. Sabrina An, age 14, will perform the first movement of Saint-Saen’s Cello Concerto in A-minor. Sherry Tang, age 13, will be at the piano for Grieg’s Piano Concerto in A-minor.
Sherman, who conducts this concert, has extensive musical training and performance credentials. An oboist, he regularly performs with numerous groups including Musica Angelica and Southwest Chamber Music. As conductor, he serves as music director for the Santa Clarita Valley Youth Philharmonic Orchestra, Prelude Strings at College of the Canyons, and the Chapman University Wind Symphony. An educator, he teaches music theory and other subjects at several colleges. He also serves as executive director of ensembleGREEN, a new-music group.
Admission to the concert is free.
